Career Resolutions

Printer-friendly version

Well, we're two weeks back into the work cycle since the holidays and chances are a co-worker has asked you if you've made any resolutions. How do you respond?

Historically, I've been terrible at keeping resolutions. It's almost as if by making a resolution, I'm gauranteeing that I will break it. That is, if I can decide which resolutions to make in the first place. So this year, my resolution is to make a few that I can follow in a part of my life I enjoy focusing on- my career.

  • Trust
I still consider myself fairly new to the working world but that doesn't mean that I don't have plenty of professional experience, creativity and drive to back up my instincts. We could all benefit from trusting ourselves more.

  • Organization, Organization, Organization
As I type, I have a notebook filled with notes, to-do lists and reminders. I also have various sticky notes on my desk and computer monitor. File folders with who-knows-what inside, a drawer of old fact checks and a huge stack of magazines. Not to mention a shelf behind me with two years' worth of issues to organize. Scheduling a meeting with myself to clean is going to be the best thing I do this week. I can't wait for 4 p.m. and I promise to do my best to keep it together the rest of the year.
  • Socially Strategize
I love being the Digital Content Editor but even people who work in social media on a daily basis could do things better. Another goal or resolution is to evaluate our social media strategy and look for ways I could engage more. I like communicating with all of you and look forward to doing more of that in 2013.
  • Getting Out There
My final career resolution is to get out to more industry events and learning more and more about the cool things all of you do. I'm always amazed by the creative and highly-detailed work planners do and it's such a fun energy to be around. There's always something new and that's what makes it great!

That does it for my 2013 career resolutions. What are you working on this year? Share in the comment section below.

Cheers to another great year!
