• Mauren Sojka Earns Crew Star Award for Enthusiastic Event Management

CMA Association Management recognized Maureen Sojka as the newest Crew Star award winner for her enthusiasm and client delight.

Sojka is an events manager who joined CMA 18 months ago, and earned the award during the company’s first business quarter.

The Crew Star Award recognizes a team member for his or her dedication to the company’s core values, and spreading them to the rest of the team.

“Sojka’s work approach has built strong relationships between our team and visitors’ bureaus across the country, which benefits our clients,” said Jeffery Barnhart, president and CEO of CMA. “Sojka has rolled up her sleeves to dig into the processes of the company’s newest client, Pennsylvania Bus Association.”

Sojka manages all aspects of event and account management for multiple associations including venue selection, contract negotiation, audio/visual, food and beverage, room blocks, transportation, entertainment, and account reconciliation.

Sojka loves the adrenalin rush as a result of doing all this work. “The rush comes right as the meeting or conference starts! You get to see all of the months and months of planning come to fruition, and watch all of the little details come together to make for a special event.”

Sojka shows passion and professionalism when working with her clients.

“Sojka engages with her clients, listens to their event planning preferences and then digs in her heels, to ensure that everything is on par or above,” said Barnhart. “Her enthusiasm flows from her fingertips to the client, as well as to all those who work with her.”

Sojka’s past cliental experiences clearly show she is deserving of her award.

“I have done full association management in the past, so I understand the complete non-profit, volunteer association world,” said Sojka. “My mother was a volunteer for many organizations and usually ended up planning and managing many events. I think that was part of what I liked about event planning.”

Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel has announced the appointment of Russell Shearer as executive chef. With over a decade of experience working in hospitality kitchens across the country, most recently at JW Marriott Chicago, Shearer will oversee the hotel’s culinary operation, including one of Chicago’s hottest rooftop destinations, Raised.
