• Perot Museum Hosts Annual Fundraising Gala – Night at the Museum: Rock the Perot

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science recently hosted its annual fundraising gala, Night at the Museum: Rock the Perot, on Saturday, Nov. 10. All five levels of the museum were packed with experiences designed to “rock the senses,” from magnificent minerals, to neon-lit prehistoric giants, live music by The Bridgwater Orchestra and food from Wolfgang Puck Catering.

Guests were able to enjoy activities and takeaways including glam-rock makeup, crystal tattoos, body-morphing mirrors, a giant kaleidoscope, color chemistry and more. From giant geodes and sparkling crystals to towering dinosaurs and skeletal casts, touchable fossils and cutting-edge technology, gala-goers were truly transported to prehistoric times. Fun-filled guided tours were also offered throughout the evening.

“Our biggest fundraising event, Night at the Museum directly supports our mission to inspire minds through nature and science,” said Dr. Linda Silver, the EugeneMcDermott chief executive officer of the Perot Museum. “These funds allow us to develop rich and relevant exhibit content, facilitate groundbreaking research and create engaging programming and innovative experiences for schoolchildren and guests of all ages within and beyond the walls of the Museum. Thanks to our incredible supporters, we are leading the charge for STEM education and exploration in North Texas.”

Proceeds from Night at the Museum support the museum, which is a nonprofit organization, and its mission to inspire minds through nature and science by funding educational programming, student scholarships, museum operations, traveling exhibitions and impactful research.

The 180,000-square-foot facility opened in December 2012 and is now recognized as the symbolic gateway to the Dallas Arts District. Future scientists, mathematicians and engineers will find inspiration and enlightenment through 11 permanent exhibit halls on five floors of public space; a children’s museum; a state-of-the art traveling exhibition hall; and The Hoglund Foundation Theater, a National Geographic Experience. Designed by 2005 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate Thom Mayne and his firm Morphosis Architects, the Museum has been lauded for its artistry and sustainability. 

A team of hospitality students from Kansas State University in Kansas won PCMA’s inaugural Business Events Industry Student Challenge for proposing how to protect personal data of people attending business events.

Members of the winning team included Brooks Hetle, Bailey Brown, Andie Contreras, Tia Gamble and Cameryn Rasmussen. The students were advised by Kristin Malek, an assistant professor of hospitality management. The team competed against nearly two dozen collegiate teams from across the United States.

 

The Graduate Hotel Minneapolis’ partnership with Topgolf took off this October with the opening of its Swing Suite, the third Topgolf partnership with the Graduate Hotels brand since implementing the Swing Suite in the Graduate Lincoln and the Graduate Iowa City.

 

Event attendees at the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRB) will now be able to enjoy coffee from the first robotic, connected coffee service in Houston—the Coffee Haus, located across from the Marriott Marquis Houston’s skywalk. Houston First, which owns and operates the GRB, and its hospitality team powered by Levy, Houston Inspired Catering, have partnered with Austin-based Briggo to implement this service.
