Jim Koutsky was recently appointed director of finance for Grand Plaza Hotel and The Beachcomber in St. Pete Beach, Florida. 

1. What are you looking forward to the most in your new role?    

From day one, I have been amazed at the quality of our staff in these two properties. With that in mind, I am looking forward to seeing what heights our staff can achieve within the Benchmark organization!

2. How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?

As my experience ranges from downtown business hotels to large scale resorts, overseeing two beach hotels in Florida is right in my wheelhouse. I have a vast amount of experience in Florida, understanding the effects of such things such as weather, and seasonal occupancy highs and lows will be a great advantage.

3. How did you get into the industry?

Being originally from Florida and only a one-hour drive to Orlando, the hotel industry seemed to be the most logical move for me.

4. What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?

With the arrival of Benchmark at these two hotels, it is important to maximize the expertise of Benchmark, such as yield management, labor efficiencies, and food and beverage cost controls. We have already installed several new software systems that are putting us on track for greater profitability.

5. What do you enjoy most about the industry?

The hotel industry is near and dear to my heart…to work in an environment where you are surrounded by people having fun and making memories. I really can’t think of a better industry to work!
