#stellar event status

Social media has drastically changed since I was in college. Thanks to Instagram, Twitter and FB, the hashtag symbol is becoming a larger topic when it comes to following, reporting and engaging with companies, friends or events. I personally love following the buzz during events that I cannot attend via hashtags. Savvy event planners can use hashtags to help our industry and business grow.

JW Marriott Launches Wellness Menu

The JW Marriott Grand Rapids is taking an active approach to New Year’s resolutions with a new Wellness Break Menu, offering activities such as yoga, kickboxing and more.

The idea was inspired by a recent study of Fortune 100 companies that found employees’ overall well-being translates to improved productivity and increased likelihood of staying with their company for more than one year. The menu, which also offers light therapy and mindfulness activities, is intended to help groups increase productivity during meetings.

Convening Leaders Flocked to Austin

Earlier this month, The Professional Convention Management Association hosted their 2017 Convening Leaders Conference in Austin, Jan. 9–11.  

“We are thrilled to host convening leaders for the first time in Austin,” says Tom Noonan, president and CEO , Austin CVB. “Austin has become a premier destination for meeting, conventions and leisure business and we are confident that we will see return business from the PCMA attendees.”

The conference attracted about 4,500 attendees and is estimated to bring in around $11 million in economic return.

Columbia Hospitality to Now Manage Heathman Hotel

Seattle-based Columbia Hospitality has acquired the management of The Heathman Hotel. Located in Kirkland, Wash., the independent hotel and Trellis Restaurant join Columbia Hospitality’s growing portfolio of award-winning properties.

The Venetian Las Vegas Announces Unique Partnership

The Venetian, The Palazzo and Sands Expo have partnered with Zappos to offer guests access to a pop-up co-working space in The Venetian | The Palazzo Congress Center.

The 1,170-square-foot pop-up lounge provides a space to recharge, areas to collaborate and a small conference room for meetings. It is enclosed to maintain noise levels but with transparent walls to make it more inviting. The entire space is furnished by Restoration Hardware.

Restoration and Expansion At Historic Natirar On Track

Natirar, a 35,000-square-foot mansion located in New Jersey’s Somerset Hills, is undergoing renovations and expansion. The project is expected to be completed in June 2017 and will feature a complete restoration and a brand-new grand ballroom.
