    This stylish new urban hotel is an ideal spot for California and Washington colleagues to gather, brainstorm and explore.

California planners who have tech companies as clients frequently find themselves arranging meetings for attendees from Seattle, Silicon Valley and SoCal’s Silicon Beach. With the opening of Thompson Seattle, a stylish 155-room luxury hotel, they now have a vibrant new venue to consider.  

The Thompson strikes all the right notes for the tech crowd. Designed by Olson Kundig, a local, internationally celebrated architecture firm, the urban property has a sleek midcentury-meets-the-aviation-industry style. Its downtown Seattle location means everything is accessible by foot (the historic Pike Place Market is just steps away, as is the waterfront, great shopping, nightlife and museums) or a quick Uber ride (the Space Needle and sports stadiums). With floor-to-ceiling windows in the guest rooms and public spaces, the views of the waterfront, Olympic Mountain Range and Puget Sound inspire.

The sky is also the limit when it comes to accommodating meetings, says Amanda Parsons, general manager. “We’ve had great success in accomplishing all kinds of meetings,” she says. “There’s a lot of flexibility in our space, so we can create a wide range of environments. We’ve done very traditional boardrooms and classroom settings in the four meeting rooms on our second floor; we’ve also used soft, loungestyle seating for cocktail receptions, informal brainstorming sessions and holiday parties, and we’ve done very elegant multicourse sit-down dinners. While our open-air courtyard is a great setting for breakfast and lunch, it’s also been used for car launches.” Scout, the all-day 75-seat signature restaurant has sidewalk seating and a semiprivate open-air dining area that seats up to 20. 

The 4,500-square-foot Nest Rooftop, a hugely popular gathering spot for locals, can be bought out partially or in its entirety, for a total capacity of 250. Off-property excursions can include tours of Pike Place or taking a boat or seaplane to Westward, a lakeside restaurant that serves “water-inspired Northwest fare” and stellar cocktails. “We want to showcase all that’s wonderful about the Pacific Northwest,” says Parsons. “The minute you land in Seattle you’re in the care of the Thompson team and we’ll make whatever you want happen.” 

The time is right; the stage is set. Groups are ready to meet face to face again, and the four-star luxury hotel MGM Grand Detroit is ready to welcome you back.

According to MPI’s report “Spring 2021 Meetings Outlook,” three-quarters of meeting professionals predict a face-to-face event this calendar year. And that definitely rings true for Lisa Williams, executive director of sales for the hotel.

 

Despite an overall crushing year for the hospitality industry in Pennsylvania, some seeds of hope have been planted and are finally sprouting in the form of new hotel openings. These new properties on the horizon have ample meeting and event space up for grabs, all within close proximity of each other.
