Drinkware is still one of the hottest categories in promotional merchandise. If you’re looking at investing in this type of product, here are some tips and favorite products to help you play it safe and look great while being socially and environmentally responsible.

Health and Safety

With so many options available, it’s difficult to know all of the nuances of design, functionality and manufacturing that go into the products you’re comparing in online searches. Often, this leaves the decision to a price comparison where the buyer seeks a good deal or the lowest price. Often this good deal falls short of quality in design, functionality, materials and manufacturing.

When it comes to drinkware you’re branding with your company or organization logo/ tagline, there are especially important considerations like health and safety. Your drinkware should be BPA, PVC and phthalate free and adhere to safe materials and manufacturing (see Proposition 65, a California initiative to address growing concerns about exposure to toxic chemicals; updated in Aug 2018). Chemicals like BPA and PVC, when present in products, can leach from the products into the beverage and into our bodies and contribute to toxicity levels that negatively impact health.

Your drinkware should also be safe for handling – meaning the product is safe to touch (not too hot or too cold), seals liquids in tight for travel, with appropriate ventilation and allows the consumer to drink the beverage without leaks or spillage.

Favorite Products that Fit the Bill

Naturally, It’s Bamboo
Gaia Bamboo Tumbler (Gemline)

This 13.5 oz tumbler is a bio-composite of 70% bamboo fibers (bamboo is a fast-growing plant that thrives without fertilizer or pesticides) and other natural materials. The Gaia Bamboo Tumbler by Gemline has a stainless-steel interior and push on lid for added hot and cold retention, plus the base of tumbler features nonslip grip for extra stability. It’s BPA, PVC and phthalate free and comes with a one-piece natural gift box. It’s a classy and refined way to both keep your beverage insulated while also delivering on the experience of getting a smooth, efficient sip of your beverage.

Quirky and Colorful
Brooklyn Tumbler with straw (ETS Express)

This double wall 18/8 stainless steel thermal tumbler with copper vacuum insulation has a stainless steel rim and bas and a threaded snap fit Tritan lid for hot/cold use. I love the flexible wide silicone straw – it’s playfully fun, is not plastic and allows you to sip safely while driving. The Brooklyn comes in two sizes (16 oz and 24oz) and an entire array of vibrant colors including matte skyblue (pictured above) and matte pink.

Comfortable Conversations
Beck cork mug (ETS Express)

This 13 oz. stoneware mug has a matte color on the outside and a gloss color on the inside. Its base is cork, which means it should be washed by hand and avoid the microwave. The stoneware does seem to keep the beverage hot longer than the average mug and the cork and stoneware combo invites conversation in a warm way. Also of note, the creator of this drinkware has an awesome online tool called Real Time Designer. It allows you to drop in your logo/graphics/copy, alter it to meet your vision and have a sample shipped to you to ensure it’s exactly how you want it. Now that’s a sustainable process.

Go Vertical With Graphics
H2Go SILO (ETS Express)

This 16.9 oz. double wall 18/8 stainless steel thermal bottle with copper vacuum insulation and threaded insulated lid is sleek at 10.5" H x 2.25" W and attention-grabbing. A favorite application for the silo is a city skyline, as shown on this Idea Exchange 2018 Silo with the Minneapolis skyline, white with navy graphics. Twelve colors are available and if you’ve got a brand or message that pairs with the matte mint version, you must go for it.

Intended to Impress
H2Go Journey (ETS Express)

For a polished look, Journey’s threaded stainless steel insulated lid, swing handle, high polish stainless steel rim, stainless steel base, and powder coated finish delivers. This impressive drinkware holds 25 ounces of your beverage of choice and has a double wall 18/8 stainless steel thermal bottle with copper vacuum insulation. It comes in nine colors including a vibrant red (shown here with a silver imprint) and matte navy that looks so incredibly sharp.

As a wrap up, I suggest pairing a beverage with your drinkware giveaway. Hot or iced coffee, hot chocolate, a fun, sparkly seltzer from a locally-sourced company adds exponentially to the charm and intentionality of your giveaway or gift. Remember: thoughtfully designed and functional promotional products can have lasting positive impact for your brand. Play it safe with these tips and sample favorites and play it even safer by designing, planning and ordering well in advance of your event.

The times they are a-changing, and that has never been truer than when it comes to selecting an A/V partner and deciding whether the in- house A/V vendor or an outside third-party provider is the right partner for you. Due to advancements in technology, lighting and other A/V equipment that has come down in price, planners are now finding op- portunities to use previously out of budget technology with a much more palatable price tag.

Retreats and off-site meetings present wonderful opportunities for groups to collaborate, strategize and build relationships away from their normal office environments. With proper planning, these sessions can be highly effective and even pivotal in setting a new direction. However, off-sites may present some unforeseen challenges that can quickly deflate the energy in the room if not anticipated and addressed in advance.

Landing a big-name keynote speaker can be a significant part of your conference budget. That person should add credibility to the event and hopefully boost attendance. But if your speakers just deliver canned presentations before making a quick exit for the airport, you and your attendees are missing the full value they can bring to an event. With some extra planning, you can help set up the speaker and your event for success.
