A Grand Gala for the LA Opera

By M+E Staff

In the Spring/Summer 2022 issue of California Meetings + Events, we profiled Cody Barrera, director of sales for Hope & Grand Events. Cody had told us then that the word “grand” in the company’s name was “not taken lightly.” A recent Hope & Grand event is proof of this. The elegant black-tie Opera Ball celebrated the start of the LA Opera’s 37th season. Guests enjoyed a champagne reception before the performance of Donizetti’s “Lucia di Lammermoor” as well as receptions during the opera’s two intermissions. The hosted bar featured a Kentucky Mule as the specialty drink. Passed hors d’oeuvres included potato rosti with caviar and crème fraiche; seared beef crostini; marigold ricotta with champagne poached pears, and taro chips with blue fin tuna.

After the opera, 375 guests gathered on the Music Center’s Jerry Moss Plaza for a gala dinner and dancing. The menu featured a grilled stone fruit salad; salt-roasted filet of beef; curried vegetable croquettes; and, for dessert, vanilla white chocolate mousse and peach-and-vanilla sponge cake. Every element of the event hit a high note.
