Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa, located north of downtown San Diego in the La Jolla area, debuted the finishing touches of a major renovation project in April, which included upgrades to guest rooms and meeting spaces as well as the introduction of two new culinary outlets. Rooted in a rich history of equestrian training, Estancia La Jolla also celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.

“Celebrated as one of La Jolla’s finest locales for 20 years, Estancia La Jolla Hotel & Spa has contributed to the vibrancy of our community through exceptional service, rancho-inspired charm, and unforgettable experiences,” describes Eric Jenkins, general manager of the hotel. “We offer 210 completely redesigned guest rooms and suites, multiple dining destinations—including all-new The Trading Post Cafe & Bar and The Palma Bar & Grill—a collection of versatile event spaces, and the full-service Spa Estancia. We also host a number of signature events that guests and locals can enjoy, including our annual Halloween party, Agave Fest, Whiskey & Wine Bash, and more.”

The hotel was originally built as a thoroughbred horse training facility, sitting on 10 acres of lush grounds full of pathways to explore and botanical gardens to wander through. Preserving and highlighting this special time in Estancia’s history was key during the renovation project, including the use of the property’s original brick from the initial equestrian facilities. “We also have a robust chef’s garden, butterfly sanctuary, and buzzing apiary where our bees produce the honey used throughout our culinary and cocktail programs—all of these experiences are open to guests,” adds Jenkins.

Estancia offers nine indoor event spaces and four outdoor options for planners to consider, totaling nearly 47,000 square feet of function space. Inside are spaces such as the La Jolla Ballroom, which was a focal point of the hotel’s event space renovations and received new lighting and flooring. Outside, planners will find the Olive Lawn and the Garden Courtyard, available and flexible for various group sizes and arrangements. On-site team-building activities include salsa-making competitions, mixology lessons, and beach clean-ups.

“The Estancia experience is all-encompassing, thoughtful, and robust—which makes planning and execution a seamless process,” says Jenkins. “We have worked hard to curate a guest experience that offers something for everyone, and it’s beyond fulfilling to see guests enjoying what we have worked so hard to create.”
