Pacific Terrace Hotel is San Diego’s only AAA Four-Diamond hotel located right on the beachfront, tucked between Crystal Pier and North Pacific Beach. The 73-room property features access to beach equipment and toys—think boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrellas, and buckets and shovels to build sandcastles—alongside a heated outdoor jacuzzi and pool, fitness room, and a selection of meeting and event space for up to 100 attendees.
“As a boutique hotel, our meeting space is designed for small groups, while our banquet and catering area—consisting of our patio and pool—can accommodate up to 100 people,” explains Sandra Kauffman, general manager of the hotel. “We have a boardroom and our two largest suites, named the Grand Pacific Suites, which can have the living areas—featuring expansive windows and views—set up as meeting spaces.”
The boardroom, dubbed the Hidden Cove Boardroom, spans 900 square feet and works well for smaller executive meetings and business retreats. Here, planners will find a carved mahogany wood conference table that can comfortably seat up to 16, a large flat-screen TV, speakerphone, internet access, and a kitchenette with a full-size refrigerator and microwave. The Grand Pacific Suites are each 850 square feet in size and best suit groups of up to 14; they feature private balconies and kitchenette areas as well. “With its picturesque setting and personalized service, the hotel provides a memorable backdrop for both professional and personal occasions,” Kauffman adds.
The Pacific Terrace Hotel underwent a two-year, $3 million renovation that officially wrapped up in June. Updates were made to all 73 guest rooms and the lobby, in addition to the new Terrace Cafe. “Before the renovation, our hotel had been ranked by guests on Tripadvisor as No. 1 in San Diego for years due to our incredible location by the beach, ocean views, and exceptional warm hospitality and style,” says Kauffman. “We wanted to continue to exceed expectations. It was important for us to refresh our hotel to meet the evolving expectations of guests and maintain our reputation for providing exceptional stays.”
The hotel is just over a 20-minute drive from San Diego International Airport, offering quick access for attendees. Between meetings, eventgoers might ride along the nearby 3-mile boardwalk that runs through Pacific Beach down to Mission Beach via complimentary bikes provided by the hotel. Or, engage in a friendly team-building game of volleyball or Smash Ball—equipment for both is also supplied.
“I am very fortunate to be able to come to work every day at this magnificent hotel in such a magical setting right on the beach,” says Kauffman. “I try to take a few moments each day to appreciate just hearing the ocean, feeling the breeze, watching the surf, and, at the close of the business day, leaving the hotel and watching people line up on the boardwalk as they stop to take in the beauty of the sun setting over the ocean.”
