James Robinson Promoted at Visit Anaheim

The longtime industry veteran was promoted to senior director of meeting sales for Anaheim’s convention and visitors bureau

James Robinson always had a passion for hospitality and traveling, so it’s no shocker that his career took him around various hotels and tourism bureaus. He first joined Visit Anaheim in Southern California in 2022 as convention sales director of the southern region, tasked with strengthening production and relationships within the meetings and events market. Proven success in that role was highlighted when Robinson was promoted to senior director of meeting sales in mid-June.

“I love guiding people, and I feel that I’m in the perfect position to make a difference in this role at Visit Anaheim,” says Robinson. “Anaheim has so much to offer planners and meeting attendees. Everything is within an arm’s reach from our world-class hotels. Some of the best beaches are just 20 minutes away; and incredible restaurants, shopping, and some of the best theme parks in the world are all within walking distance.”

Prior to his current stint at Visit Anaheim, Robinson spent more than six years on the sales team at nearby Visit Long Beach. He also held earlier positions at The Westin Long Beach and Sheraton Park Hotel at the Anaheim Resort. He not only brings a wealth of professional expertise to his new role at Visit Anaheim but also a diverse background in various lifestyles and cultures from having lived in many Canadian and U.S. cities. “Originally I was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada; but I have lived in Toronto, Ontario; Calgary, Alberta; and also Bellevue, Washington, before making my way to sunny Anaheim,” he says.

When it comes to hosting in Anaheim, Robinson says planners are looking for memorable experiences that are notably different every time—all within the same budget year after year. “With the diverse options of venues, both in hotels and off-site, Anaheim consistently delivers for meeting planners,” he says. “Anaheim is embarking on an exciting golden decade with new developments and major events on the horizon—starting with OCVibe, which broke ground earlier this year and will offer new options for entertainment, dining, and hotel stays. There’s also DisneylandForward, a multidecade project slated to break ground soon. Anaheim will also host Olympic events in 2028 and will be the host city for IPW in 2030.”

OCVibe will be an immersive entertainment district in the heart of the city adjacent to the Honda Center, featuring more than 20 acres of public parkland and trails, a market filled with restaurants and cafes, eye-catching art installations, creative office spaces, residences, and more. Construction will take place over the course of five-plus years. DisneylandForward is a project aimed at the development of Disney properties around its current Anaheim theme parks—this will allow for the addition of new theme park attractions and hotels on the west side of Disneyland Drive as well as attractions and new shopping, dining, and entertainment to the southeast side.

“In short, my favorite thing about Anaheim is there’s always something new and exciting happening!” Robinson says.
