Fairmont Grand Del Mar, a large-scale, 400-acre property located just north of downtown San Diego, welcomed Nenad Praporski as its general manager at the beginning of July. He’s not new to the property, however, having served as its executive director of rooms from 2010 to 2015. He was most recently the general manager of Fairmont Austin in Texas, and makes his return to San Diego with joy.
“My family and I are beyond happy to be back in San Diego,” he says. “A city with the best weather in the world, friendly people, beautiful beaches, and stunning coastal canyons is truly special. I have enjoyed being back at our iconic resort and working with such an amazing team in a spectacular setting,” he continues. “We are excited to take the hotel to new heights and continue to secure the worldwide recognition it deserves.”
The 20-plus-year hospitality veteran oversees the resort’s operations and myriad amenities, which include an award-winning golf course, a spa, tennis and pickleball courts, indoor/outdoor fitness centers, and more than 70,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor event space. “We recently added the brand-new Canyon Terrace event space, which provides a versatile backdrop for group gatherings,” says Praporski. “The manicured lawn has 2,550 square feet of space and can accommodate receptions for 150 guests, or dinner for up to 100 guests, and offers views of the resort’s golf course and canyon preserve.” Additional spaces include the 2,300-square-foot Manchester Salon & Terrace, the 3,430-square-foot Capella room, the 798-square-foot North Courtyard, and the 10,000-square-foot Grand Ballroom, among others.
“We offer a variety of amenities to planners on-site, including catering, audiovisual, indoor and outdoor meeting and event spaces, live entertainment, both indoor and outdoor dining, a Forbes Five-Star spa, a business center, and a rich selection of group activities such as horseback riding, archery, tennis, pickleball, boccie ball, and golf,” adds Praporski.
Additional finds on-site include five culinary outlets—Grand Social, Amaya, Addison, The Clubhouse Grill, and Cent’ Anni Cafe—and The Fairmont Spa & Wellness, offering a comprehensive menu of treatments and products. If attendees wish to explore the surrounding area, Praporski adds that “outside of the resort, San Diego offers some of the best restaurants, attractions, and outdoor activities in the world including Balboa Park, Coronado Island, Safari Park, and San Diego Zoo.”
