Attendees seeking relaxation in-between meetings and events at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes are now able to enjoy a completely refreshed spa with an elevated design and amenities. The Spa at Terranea underwent a $4.5 million renovation that debuted in May and includes a new entry and lobby, modern lockers and bathrooms, revitalized outdoor areas, updated treatment rooms and lounge areas, and modern decor and design details that embrace the resort’s coastal setting.
“The refresh of The Spa at Terranea was inspired by our unique setting on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, where land and sea meet in a way that encourages reflection and renewal,” says Nicholas Untermann, general manager of the hotel. “We wanted the physical space to more fully reflect the natural beauty that surrounds us—from the ocean views to the native coastal landscape. The updates were thoughtfully designed to enhance the guest experience by creating a deeper sense of connection to nature, encouraging moments of calm, stillness, and presence throughout the spa journey.”
Terranea Resort worked with RVD Associates, a full-service interior design firm based in Los Angeles, on the renovation. The new design includes a color palette of tranquil blues and sandy neutrals along with organic materials, soft tactile accents, and contemporary artwork.
“Guests—whether first-time visitors or longtime loyalists—will find a renewed sense of place at The Spa at Terranea,” says Untermann. “In partnership with RVD Associates, we spent the past year reimagining the spa to create a space that feels both elevated and deeply connected to the natural beauty of our coastal surroundings. From the moment guests arrive, they’ll notice thoughtful enhancements throughout—from tranquil outdoor gathering spaces designed for reflection or shared relaxation to a revitalized lounge area featuring Gharieni loungers that support deeper rest. Treatment rooms have been upgraded with state-of-the-art Living Earth Crafts massage tables to enhance overall comfort and care. Throughout the spa, guests can explore a variety of wellness amenities, including a Himalayan-salt sauna, eucalyptus steam room, outdoor cold plunge, coed Jacuzzi, and fire pits that open out to the Pacific Ocean. Every element is designed to foster a deeper connection to self and to the rhythms of the surrounding land and sea.”
The spa also introduced two treatments as part of its renovation: a 60-minute Hydrafacial that enhances texture and radiance of skin for a refreshed and glowing complexion and a 60-minute Harmonic Awakening treatment that incorporates Himalayan singing bowls and their healing vibrations to awaken the body’s chakras, followed by a restorative marma point body and facial massage (an Ayurvedic tradition stimulating energy points on the body).
