Opening in May as part of the Shelter Co. Family of Brands based in Sonoma County, The River Electric is a swim club and camp-style resort nestled among redwood groves and sunny meadows in Guerneville. The 12-acre property is just a short distance from the heart of town, offering outdoor adventure and relaxation—plus event space for 200.
Planned in collaboration with designer Will Spurzem of San Francisco-based development group Boundary Works, the property incorporates architectural and design elements intended to minimize its environmental impact, such as waterproof doors and bioretention landscaping. Shelter Co. Creative Director Maggie Wilson and San Francisco-based interior designer Jessie Galloway teamed up to curate the resort’s nostalgic summer camp aesthetic.
“We have had this dream for more than a decade,” says Kelsey Sheofsky, CEO of the Shelter Co. Family of Brands, in a prepared statement. “Since we started Shelter Co. in 2012, we knew a permanent home was in our future. The River Electric is that place, a cornerstone of Guerneville where people can gather, celebrate, and fall in love with the Russian River Valley just as we have.”
The resort’s accommodations embrace the spirit of the great outdoors, with 40 furnished tents equipped with electricity and Wi-Fi, among other modern conveniences. Attendees might also take advantage of its two swimming pools, the Main Pool and The Little Dipper, as well as the resort’s pool bar. Private pool parties can be booked for up to 40 guests with food and beverage service included. The River Electric’s menus include fresh takes on classics, such as poached salmon salads, flavorful vegan gyros, and house-made seasoned potato chips, alongside a full-service bar. The resort also offers custom wine blends found exclusively on-property, created in tandem with Ruth Lewandowski Wines in Healdsburg.
Additional event spaces include an 86-by-46-foot sailcloth tent and a scenic amphitheater, among others. For planners looking to book a retreat-style stay, The River Electric also facilitates exclusive buyouts for 80-plus overnight attendees. Lodging options can be expanded through its sister company Shelter Co.
