Located in downtown San Diego just blocks from San Diego Bay, The Westin San Diego Bayview completed a $20 million renovation to its 436 guest rooms and myriad meeting spaces. The property is in proximity to the city’s iconic Gaslamp Quarter, notable attractions like Petco Park and Balboa Park, and the San Diego Convention Center.

“In concert with our exceptional team and amenities, this renovation exemplifies our commitment to delivering an unparalleled experience for groups, meetings, and leisure travelers,” says Peter Engard, general manager of the hotel, in a prepared statement. “We seamlessly blend modern aesthetics with the well-being initiatives that define the Westin brand. Guests flock to our hotel for an elevated experience, so it was important for us to offer contemporary and sophisticated meeting and guest room accommodations to match that.”

The renovation was overseen by the hotel’s management company, Aimbridge Hospitality (based in Arlington, Texas), and was designed by HVS Design (based in Rockville, Maryland). The hotel offers either bay-view or city-view guest rooms, all of which now feature a neutral, soothing color palette through elements such as headboard wall coverings made of natural cork. Additionally, the 26,044 square feet of function space spanning 15 rooms features refreshed interiors and updated amenities throughout. Its largest space, the Emerald Ballroom, offers 5,880 square feet of room to convene for up to 650 attendees theater-style.

“From the moment guests step off the elevator, they are greeted with delicate tones and a meandering carpet pattern that leads them to a memorable in-room experience. Our intention [was to] to create spaces where guests felt like they could truly take a break from the bustling city center where the hotel is located,” says Michelle C. West, design director at HVS Design. “We pulled in elements that celebrate the natural beauty of the neighboring San Diego beaches while weaving in design elements that fit with the building’s distinct architecture to give Westin guests an all-new experience in this iconic building.”
