By a number of measures, hotels are doing well in San Francisco. For starters, occupancy rates, according to preliminary data, were 67.2% for the month of April, with average daily room rates just above $225. As the San Francisco Travel Association notes, those numbers point to the best-performing month for San Francisco hotels since pandemic restrictions were put in place in March 2020.
And, in a telling reflection of confidence in San Francisco’s continuing strength as a travel destination, new hotels are making their debut. On June 1, 1 Hotel San Francisco, located near the Ferry Building on the Embarcadero, opens its doors. Part of the 1 Hotels, a luxury lifestyle brand inspired by nature, the 200-room property, has over 5,000 square feet of meeting and event space. When Luma Hotel San Francisco opens on June 15 it will be the first-ever hotel development in the Mission Bay neighborhood; the 299-room Union Square property will feature 7,000 square feet of meeting and event space. On June 30, following a renovations and redesign of all public spaces and 418 guest rooms, Sir Francis Drake Hotel will reopen its doors as the Beacon Grand. Set to open later this summer at the intersection where South of Market (SOMA) district, Civic Center, and Tenderloin converge, the 12-story, 236-room LINE SF will have over 2,000 square feet of event space and four dining and drinking experiences, including a landscaped rooftop solarium with panoramic views of the city.
By the end of 2022, San Francisco Travel notes, seven new branded and independent hotels will have debuted in the city, adding to San Francisco’s current offering of 245 properties.
