Commune Hotels & Resorts Announced Two New Hotels for Los Angeles

By M+E Staff

Commune Hotels & Resorts, an international lifestyle hotel management company, announced they will be opening two new hotels in the greater Los Angeles area as part of their national expansion. The brand comprises Joie de Vivre Hotels, Thompson Hotels, and tommie. The luxury lifestyle brand, Thompson Hotels, and the new micro lifestyle brand, tommie are debuting in New York City this fall. Both new hotels are being led by a private developer experienced with urban area projects.

“The resurgence and robust future of Hollywood create a prime opportunity for us to bring the first new-build Thompson hotel to Los Angeles and introduce tommie to the West Coast,” said Niki Leondakis, CEO, Commune Hotels & Resorts. “The privilege of working closely with our partners in the layout and programming of the two buildings provides the opportunity to genuinely weave the new hotels into the fabric of the neighborhood in each of the brand’s distinctive ways.”

The Thompson Hollywood will be located on Wilcox Avenue, north of Sunset Boulevard. The 10-story building will house 200 rooms, designed with the scene and style of Hollywood in mind. The ground floor, will be comprised of the hotel lobby, a 4,595-square-foot restaurant, a 1,862-square-foot bar, and an outdoor plaza. Up on the penthouse level, there will be an outdoor pool, a 1,430-square-foot restaurant and fitness center, all overlooking the iconic Hollywood sign and views of downtown Los Angeles.

Located nearby, tommie Hollywood will be on Cahuenga Boulevard, south of Sunset Boulevard. The micro-lifestyle hotel combines the brand ethos of tommie hotels with the cultural fabric of L.A.’s most walkable neighborhood. Still in the early planning stages, more details concerning tommie Hollywood are yet to come.

Hollywood is in a time of growth. Historic neighborhoods are resurging and the population is estimated to increase by up to 68 percent over the next five years. The mix of nightlife, mom-and-pop bars and nationally-famed restaurants continue to be a draw for visitors and events.

Hotel guests can check out local treasures during their stay. Independent record store Amoeba Records, Floyd’s 99 barbershop, the Sunday-only Hollywood Farmer’s Market, and entertainment production offices are all nearby.

After securing entitlement and permits, Thompson Hollywood and tommie Hollywood anticipate breaking ground by the end of 2015. Both hotels are projected to open in 2017.
