LACC Transformed for Unusual Events

By M+E Staff

AEG Facilities’ Los Angeles Convention Center is excited to welcome clients and guests for a versatile and personalized space, which accommodates a wide range of events. Proving unique, the LACC has hosted anything from equestrian competitions to celebrity-studded events, such as the Emmy Awards Governors Ball.  Now approaching the end of 2014, the LACC has hosted over 350 events, several of which showcase their ability to transcend the typical restraints of convention center events.

“We are very fortunate at the Los Angeles Convention Center to have both the physical space as well as a talented and dedicated team that can help our clients’ event vision come alive,” noted Brad Gessner, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the LACC. “This year especially we’ve hosted very unconventional events for the Convention Center such as the Southern California Volleyball Association (SCVA) Junior National Qualifier, which converted the LACC into 80 competition volleyball courts and facilitated 6,000 matches over two weekends in March as well as the high-profile Longines Los Angeles Masters Grand Slam equestrian competition, which brought the world’s best riders and show horses to the LACC in September,” Gessner concluded.

The LACC’s Kentia Hall once became home to over 100 of the world’s best show horses for over a week, for the Longines Los Angeles Masters Grand Slam. The Center’s South Hall was then transformed into a competition arena, complete with bleacher stands, an art gallery showcase, and vendors. For celebration events, the venue space transitioned to an upscale ambiance with high end décor that gives the feel of the Hollywood red carpet.

“We are excited to host many more of these ‘unconventional’ events in the future and we’re ready for 2015!” stated Carisa Malanum, vice president of event services at the LACC.

Along with hosting entertainment industry events, the LACC has also become the filming space for major films, TV shows and commercials. The convention center has also acted as the backdrop for airport, parking garage, tunnel, shopping mall, or electrical room scenes. The LACC has experienced an increase in filming activity of more than 30 percent, thanks to the AEG Facilities transitioning into their management role.
