New Event Space at Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego

By M+E Staff

After a four-year, $105 million renovation, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) is reopening its La Jolla location. Featuring a world-class contemporary art collection and some of the region’s most spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean, the expanded La Jolla campus will offer enlarged galleries, an art park and, in very good news for event planners, several spaces available to rent for private events.

The spaces include:

Jacobs Hall, a multipurpose event space with 23-foot wooden ceilings and a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows with unobstructed views of the coastline, and the adjoining Jackson Terrace and Palmer Terrace.

Davis Family Oceanview Terrace, which boasts one of the best views in La Jolla, is nestled just outside the newly expanded galleries and bordered by Italian travertine in warm earth tones.

Axline Court, MCASD’s signature gallery in the heart of the La Jolla campuse, has has been home to decades of special events. The Museum’s largest event space can accommodate seated events for up to 250 guests. Showcasing the neon artwork of Robert Venturi, it provides an art-rich backdrop for special events.

Holly McGrath Terrace, home of the Nancy Rubins’ sculpture Pleasure Point, overlooks the Sculpture Garden and is a favorite space for an intimate dinner timed to take in the sunset. The adjacent Conrad Prebys Learning Center can be added for an indoor-outdoor experience.

The Sahm Seaview Room and Bartell Terrace offers two floor-to-ceiling glass walls that can be adjusted to be fully open to The Art Park and ocean views, for a small dinner or celebration.

The Art Park, a private park with stunning views and outdoor sculpture, has been newly transformed. Open to the community, it can also be reserved for private events.
