San Diego International Airport and Paradise Point Resort Launch Sustainable Travel Program

By M+E Staff

The Destination Hotel, Paradise Point on Mission Bay in San Diego, partnered with San Diego International Airport on a new sustainable travel program, The Good Traveler. The new program attempts to offset the environmental impact of travel by encouraging guests to buy carbon offsets in the form of merchandise or add-ons to hotel reservations. For only $1, one can offset 500 miles of air travel or 200 miles of driving. 100% of the programs funds go towards conservation projects counteracting the environmental impacts of greenhouse gas emissions
Paradise Point is the first hotel to participate in The Good Traveler program. Paradise Point offers guests the option to participate in the program by offering carbon offsets when booking a room reservation online. Purchases are available in one-dollar increments.
The current projects that benefit from The Good Traveler program include a forest restoration project in California, a wind farm project in Idaho and a water restoration project in the Colorado Delta.
Paradise Point is a green, eco-friendly hotel on 44 acres in San Diego’s Mission Bay. Notable eco-friendly initiatives that Paradise Point has implemented include the conversion of 10,000 sprinkler heads to low flow systems and replacing more than 50,000 square feet of grass turf with drought-tolerant plants. Multiple recycling practices have earned “Recycler of the Year” awards from the City of San Diego.
