Andrew Mason, the ousted founder of Groupon, has launched an iPhone app that offers unconventional walking tours of major cities. First up is San Francisco, with themed tours that skip the familiar attractions for hidden stories. Among the initial tours are Beat Generation, a journey to the haunts of Jack Kerouac and Allan Ginsberg; Beyond the Painted Ladies, a look at the colorful tales behind the city’s Victorian houses; and The Fisherman’s Fisherman’s Wharf, a dive into the popular attraction from the perspective of commercial fishermen. New tours are released each month; $5 each or $19.99 for an annual subscription.
