As corporate retreats continue to become more experiential, consider a summer camp format for grown-ups.

One of the most cost-effective ways to coordinate this type of gathering is to book a facility that serves youth or a church group, school or nonprofit organization mainly during the summer and occasional other times and hire an outfitter, business that specializes in team-building or destination management company if the camp doesn’t already have experienced staff to assist. Looking for a turn-key option instead that might cost a bit more but is all-inclusive? One possibility is Camp No Counselors (CNC), that was founded in 2014 with one camp in New York and has expanded to 11 total cities including locations in the Mountain West near Denver, Seattle and Calgary. There are a variety of dates seat aside for corporate retreats in 2019.

The company also has camp partners all over the country and can create the experience year-round in the area of a group’s choosing.

About 30 percent of CNC’s business is currently from corporate buyouts that feature classic camp games, activities (e.g., talent shows, color wars, kickball, etc.), group bunks, nightly themed parties, outdoor adventures and water sports. A/V equipment and unique discussion settings ensure the retreat also has a business focus. Group packages are customizable, and a camp can be branded with T-shirts, logos and more. Examples of past corporate clients include Shock Top, Coffee Meets Bagel, and Saucony, which worked with CNC on an incentive program to reward top sellers nationally with a team-building camp.

The new Denver camp is located on 385 acres surrounded by a pine forest, rolling hills and miles of trails and easily accessible being one hour from Denver and one hour from Colorado Springs. Examples of this camp's available activities include archery, arts and crafts, rock climbing, nature hikes, ropes courses, zip line, ultimate Frisbee, painting and tie-dye. Meanwhile, the Calgary camp is nestled halfway between Calgary and Banff on a 160-acre retreat featuring foothills, forest and waterways. This location features very similar activities and has one of the largest ropes courses in western Canada and four newly renovated lodges.
