Winter Park Ski Train Gears Up for Season

By M+E Staff

A great way to combine a meeting in Denver with a ski and snowboard outing to Winter Park is by using the Amtrak Winter Park Express for transportation. It’s a fun and picturesque journey that begins at the beautifully restored Denver Union Station, located in the heart of downtown, and ends just steps from the slopes at Winter Park Resort

This winter, the ski train is available every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from Jan.13 through March 26 or a total of 33 round trips. The train departs Denver at 7 a.m. and arrives at Winter Park Resort at 9 a.m. The return trip leaves at 4:30 p.m. and arrives in Denver at 6:40 p.m. While en route, enjoy reclining seats and large picture windows to relax and soak in the views.

One-way fares start at $34 for adults and $17 for kids ages 2-12, and check into discounted group travel and options for exclusive railcar occupancy. Ski and snowboard gear can be brought on board as a carry-on for no additional charge, and snacks and drinks are available for purchase in the bi-level Sightseer Lounge car.

For trips Monday through Thursday, Amtrak’s California Zephyr runs daily between Chicago and the San Francisco Bay area through Denver and Salt Lake City. The train stops at the Fraser-Winter Park Train Station in Fraser, and shuttle transportation is available.
