Event Sustainability Firm Receives B-Corp Certification

By M+E Staff

Honeycomb Strategies, based in the Colorado mountain town of Crested Butte and with a second location in Portland, Oregon, has been certified as a B Corporation. The women-owned sustainability consulting firm is helping the global event industry create sustainable management systems and reduce its footprint.

B Corps are for-profit companies that meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability and use their profits and growth to positively impact stakeholders and the planet.

“Collaborating and innovating with event planners, vendors, venues and GSCs, our goal is to help organizations be thought leaders in their industry and go beyond what they thought possible,” says Lindsey Arell, a principal at Honeycomb Strategies. “Being a Certified B Corp means that Honeycomb Strategies’ commitments have been validated to a high level of compliance by an international standard.”

She adds, “Honeycomb Strategies scored high for customer and community impacts, scoring above average for our sector and for the country at large. Our business model is entirely client focused, reducing detrimental impacts by supporting clients in procurement strategies, measurement systems and environmental stewardship and by addressing underserved communities in their sector. This includes community engagement like considering diversity and inclusion as part of a sustainability package and providing volunteer hours.”

The company provides collaborative and impactful solutions for clients in the tradeshow, event and hospitality industries and for venues, sports teams and sports facilities. A focus is supporting clients that are seeking sustainability certifications including ISO 20121, LEED, APEX/ASTM and TRUE Zero Waste and reporting frameworks such as Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and ESG reporting.

For its own practices, Honeycomb Strategies tracks greenhouse gas consumption for team members’ travel, plans to offset those impacts in the near future, and is committed to preferring vendors within 100 miles of the job site, recommending products manufactured with ethical labor practices and prioritizing working with women-, minority-, disabled- and veteran-owned businesses.
