As COVID-19 hit, key projects at some of Colorado’s major meetings and events properties were just wrapping up and getting ready to debut. Construction of Bartolin Hall, The Broadmoor’s new exhibition space, was completed in March 2020 in time to welcome the annual Space Symposium, which has the largest economic impact of any single event in the community of Colorado Springs.
Instead, all official opening ceremonies and other inaugural fanfare were cancelled along with the 2020 Space Symposium and replaced with virtual tours. Finally, on Aug. 20, 2021, Bartolin Hall had its moment in the spotlight when representatives from the property, distinguished guests and the local community gathered for an official ribbon cutting ceremony and celebration. And Bartolin Hall and The Broadmoor welcomed the rescheduled 36th Space Symposium only a few days later on Aug. 23-26.
The Hall
Bartolin Hall encompasses 125,000 square feet of state-of-the-art space, including 32 meeting rooms and a 93,500-square-foot exhibit hall featuring polished concrete floors, 25-foot-high black piped ceilings, and direct connection to the 60,000-square-foot ballroom known as Broadmoor Hall. The new addition brings the total amount of convention and exhibit space at The Broadmoor to more than 315,000 square feet.
The Name
Bartolin Hall is named in honor of Steve Bartolin, who is responsible for positioning The Broadmoor as a leader in group business with the inception of Broadmoor Hall and The Broadmoor Events Center in the 1990s. The presence of Bartolin Hall ushers in a new era of group business for The Broadmoor and Colorado Springs by presenting a unique tradeshow space outside of the expected convention centers and cities and doing it with top-notch service expected from a Forbes Five-Star and AAA Five-Diamond property.
The Ribbon Cutting
To honor the occasion and mark the importance of the new venue for Colorado Springs , several people spoke to recognize the accomplishment including Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers; El Paso County Commissioner Stan VanderWerf; Space Foundation CEO Tom Zelibor; Colorado Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau President and CEO Doug Price; The Broadmoor President and CEO Jack Damioli; The Broadmoor Vice President of Sales & Marketing Scott Flexman; and Steve Bartolin, Chairman of The Broadmoor and President of The Broadmoor- Sea Island Company.
