A 1912 brick building that housed John Varone’s Italian grocery store and his family’s residence on the second floor has been repurposed into an elegant function space, Varone Market Venue, which opened last year. Located in Denver’s thriving Lower Highland neighborhood, the venue marries the timeless charm of its historic roots with contemporary sophistication.
Structural enhancements, brick restoration, plumbing upgrades, and the addition of skylights have breathed new life into the location. Modern conveniences—such as renovated bathrooms, a well-equipped catering kitchen, a repurposed historic bar, state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems, and roll-up glass doors leading to a patio— have been added. The adjacent Carriage House, once the home of the Varone family’s horses and carriages, retains echoes of its equestrian history and has been transformed into a versatile space for breakout sessions, intimate gatherings, and bridal suites.
