As a kid, it was always fun to talk about the new things received for Christmas. With two teens in the house, I’ll be hearing a lot about that with their friends coming in and out over school break. It’s also fun to highlight new things in our state, and there are some good ones!
When in Denver last month, I was fortunate to go into Union Station and catch a glimpse of the major transformation underway in this grand historic building, including two models rooms in The Crawford Hotel located within the structure and part of a 90,000 square development project set for completion in mid-2014. In additional to the 112-room hotel, the project includes an extensive transportation hub and an exciting line up of locally owned restaurants and shops.
It also was fun to see Concept Restaurant’s new Humboldt Farm.Fish.Wine in the former Strings location, trying several tasty dishes at a media event located in a great private
dining space in the atrium. There also is outdoor seating for those beautiful Colorado days.
Also, a few new happenings from the mountains have caught my attention. You can now go right from skiing or snowboarding to dog sledding at Durango Mountain Resort and to bowling in Snowmass. There’s no jumping in a bus or car, these activities are right at the base. With Durango Dog Ranch, go on an hour-long ride and even get some hands-on experience. Slow Your Roll in Snowmass Village Mall features eight full-sized bowling
lanes, lounge area, locally brewed beers, wood-fired oven pizzas, upscale bar food and more.
In Steamboat, night skiing and boarding is now available by boarding the Christie Peak Express chairlift transports visitors to access five trails. Also, a snowcat will transport visitors to a mountain top culinary experience at the new13,000-square-foot Four Points Lodge on Friday and Saturday nights.
