Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms is a historic homestead and working farm set on 700 acres tucked against the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. In Littleton, just off state Route 470 and Wadsworth Boulevard, Chatfield Farms offers a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle of the city while still being conveniently located near Denver.

This unique venue is operated by Denver Botanic Gardens but feels very different from the York Street location. Here, the wildness of unspoiled natural spaces is displayed. Prairie gardens showcase Colorado’s wildflowers and grasses while highlighting water conservation and sustainability. Agriculture is highlighted at this location, too, as it is a working farm that uses regenerative agriculture techniques. It contains the Market Garden, which grows produce for the community-supported agriculture program and donation; Herb Garden; Iris Garden, which features a historical iris collection; and the Janice Ford Memorial Dye Garden, which hosts demonstrations by the Rocky Mountain Weavers Guild throughout the year.

Rental sites include inside and outside options. Nineteen varieties of lavender grow in the Lavender Garden, which includes a pergola and stone patio—a lovely and fragrant spot for small gatherings. The Green Farm Barn is a charming, country-chic space that includes a patio strung with bistro lights popular for dinner events and weddings. The Polly Steele Center, a quaint furnished house, is perfect for teas or showers. Deer Creek Stables features rustic chandeliers, barn doors that open to the amphitheater, and retractable walls for a flexible indoor/outdoor event space. Adjacent to the stables is Prairie Garden Terrace, a 1,600-square-foot hardwood terrace tucked under a canopy of trees laced with twinkle lights. The yurt is a unique, fun space—rent it for company retreats, yoga workshops, or as a wedding suite add-on.

If you still have not booked a space for your holiday party, consider the Green Farm Barn and add on tickets to Trail of Lights, a glittering display of light and color that runs Nov. 29 to Jan. 1.
