Overland Park Convention Center Has Certified Meeting Planners On Staff

Six Overland Park Convention Center staff members in Kansas have become Certified Meeting Planners.

“This is a monumental achievement for any individual in our industry,” says Brett C. Mitchell, general manager of the Overland Park Convention Center. “With approximately 140,000 sq. ft. of space, our building is a lot smaller than most big convention centers and with that comes a smaller staff, however we are fortunate enough to have added yet another talented and dedicated CMP to our team.”

New Convention Industry Council Board of Directors Announced

The Convention Industry Council Annual Meetings of Members was held on Oct. 20. This year’s meeting introduced the newly elected CIC Board of Directors.

Susan Robertson, CAE, executive vice president, ASAE, and president, Center for Association Leadership in Washington, D.C., was elected as the new CIC board chair; the position was previously held by Bonnie Fedchock, who completed her term.

The Convention Industry Council held its 21st Hall of Leaders & Pacesetter Awards Celebration on Oct. 18 in Jewel Nightclub at the Aria Casino Resort. CIC honored industry leaders who have directly impacted the profession and contributed to the industry.

The Convention Industry Council was fully prepared for the 2016 Hall of Leaders and Pacesetter Awards Celebration. The ceremony, which was held on Oct. 18 at Jewel Nightclub in the Aria Resort & Casino, celebrates the 21st class of the industry’s newest inductees.

The Convention Industry Council established the CMP program in 1985 to provide member organizations a platform to exchange information on global trends and promote excellence in the industry. It is recognized as the mark of excellence in the meeting, convention, exhibition and event industry. Qualifications for the certification are based on professional experience, education and a challenging exam.
