Major Chihuly Garden Exhibition to Debut in New York

From April 22 through Oct. 29, Dale Chihuly will host his first major garden art exhibition in New York in more than 10 years at the New York Botanical Garden.

Bank of America is presenting the exhibition, which will showcase 20 installations and include drawings and early works that reveal the evolution and development of Chihuly’s artistic process through his career. The vistas feature Chihuly’s signature shapes in vibrant colors.

Gateway Canyons Announces New Hire

Gateway Canyons Resort & Spa in Colorado has announced its appointment of Stephen Johnson as general manager of the hotel.

Johnson brings years of executive-leve, strategic leadership and operations development experience to his new role. He will be responsible for all guest and hotel associate experiences at the resort in addition to finances of the property.

ADMEI Awards Revealed

On January 21, the annual Associate of Destination Management Executives International Achievement Awards Gala took place in Barcelona, Spain, with Corinthian Events, Destination Nashville, Spaintacular, and The Destination Manager receiving numerous awards. The three US-based DMCs took home all three categories in Achievement, Excellenc, and Recognition. Robert Lee of Spaintacular won the Joanne O’Connor President’s Award for exhibiting over the top professional skills and enthusiasm.

JW Marriott Hotel Set to Open in Downtown Nashville

Turnberry Associates, a Miami-based real estate developer, has revealed the plans for the new JW Marriott opening in downtown Nashville in 2018. The 33-story property will be shaped like an elliptical and will be a prominent part of Nashville’s skyline at 386 feet tall.

The hotel will be located within 2 miles of Nashville’s landmarks, including: the Music City Center, The Country Music Hall of Fame, Shermerhorn Symphony Center and The Ryman Auditorium.

AlliedPRA Acquires Destination Services Corporation

AlliedPRA has acquired one of the leading destination management firms, Destination Services Corporation This move will further expand AlliedPRA’s reach within the marketplace.

AlliedPRA generates more than $100 million in revenue between its 29 locations. This acquisition will allow them to hold the number one position in the market. DSC founder and president, Kathy Fort Carty will continue to serve in her position as well as join the AlliedPRA Board of Directors.

Canopy by Hilton Develops San Antonio River Walk

Canopy by Hilton, in a joint development between Crockett Urban Ventures and Merritt Development Group, plans to develop Canopy by Hilton San Antonio River Walk. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2018, the hotel will be managed by White Lodging Services.

“We are excited to work with entrepreneurial and forward-thinking developers,” says Chris Anderson, senior vice president and chief revenue office, White Lodging. “This will be an architectural wonder and a real destination until itself.”
