If you’re looking for an elevated teambuilding activity for an intimate group of VIPs, you might want to consider a new offering from St. Regis Hotels & Resorts. The luxury hotel group has just announced the launch of private champagne sabrage masterclasses at all its properties across North America.

The St. Regis Sabrage Masterclasses, which can be tailored to a variety of group sizes, takes participants through the history and technique of sabrage before inviting them to try their hand at the ritual. According to legend, sabrage began with Napoleon and his army, who, returning from battle, would be offered bottles of Champagne by cheering townspeople. Still on horseback and unable to pop the cork, they’d use their sabers to open the bottle instead. “Champagne: in victory, one deserves it; in defeat, one needs it,” Napoleon reportedly proclaimed.

In addition to the sabrage masterclass, several St. Regis properties will also offer customized group experiences that can include canapés, a bottle of Champagne to take home, and other add-ons that vary by property.

“We are delighted to bring the art of sabrage front and center for both guests and visitors this summer at our hotels and resorts,” said George Fleck, vice president and global brand leader, St. Regis Hotels & Resorts. “There is no more glamorous way to celebrate a soiree, toast to a milestone or bond with friends than sabering a bottle of champage. We look forward to raising a glass to the time-honored tradition of sabrage with a new era of St. Regis guests.”
