The Driskill Hotel in Austin has completed an $8.8 million renovation to its public spaces, restaurants and guest rooms—just in time to celebrate the property’s 130th anniversary. The sophisticated and modern guest rooms have a number of 1920s vintage touches, in keeping with the rich history of the hotel. The carpeting in each room features a custom design interpreting Austin’s city grid as it existed between 1853 and 1890, and the guest room window valances include a historical sketch of the hotel as it appeared prior to 1886.

BACKGROUND: Twenty years ago, Steve and Jeanne Beckley were putting the final touches on the substantial improvement projects that made it possible to reopen the Glenwood Caverns and Historic Fairy Caves. The cave closed to the public during World War I more than 82 years prior.
