The new $100 million Edgewood Tahoe Lodge has opened on the south shore of Lake Tahoe after more than two decades of difficulties of strict regulations regarding the environment and four years of reviewing plans and obtaining permits for construction to begin in 2012. The Edgewood Tahoe Lodge's completion was dependent on limiting storm water runoff that is harmful to Lake Tahoe, as well as protecting wetlands, according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune.
Austin-based Chuy’s is opening their first Colorado location in Denver this June. The Tex-Mex joint will be located at 6595 W. 104th Ave. in Westminster. Chuy’s was founded in Austin back in 1982 and offers diners homemade Tex-Mex in a quirky environment.
Their most popular dishes include: stuffed chile rellenos, chicka-chicka boom-boom enchiladas and creamy jalapeno.
At SXSW Eco, AEG announced their release of the 2016 AEG Sustainability Report. They also revealed their goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2020.
The company is committed to reducing their eco-footprint. So far, they have been able to reduce emissions by 13 percent—an equivalent to eliminating 3,200 vehicles on the road.
Their goals for 2020 are to reduce GHG emissions by 3.2 percent per year, reduce potable water at water-stressed sites by 2.3 percent each year, and divert 70 percent of waste from landfill.
Cobo Center’s green efforts are landing it new business. The Sustainable Brands conference will relocate to Detroit in 2017, after five years in San Diego.
Cobo achieved the Green Meetings Industry Council’s APEX/ ASTM rigorous standard certification in 2015. (It was just the ninth convention center to do so.) Its green initiatives have been numerous, and the center has earned several awards for its efforts, including the 2015 Detroit Free Press Michigan Green Leader Award. It recently added food composting to its sustainability program.
New technology is improving the way we clean and part of that is UV lighting. Whether you’re trying to clean a restaurant, retail store, hospital or home, UV light can be used to sanitize and disinfect any surface. Plus, it’s eco-friendly!
Since the early 1900s, healthcare and food manufacturers have used UV energy to clean equipment and surfaces; the Center for Disease Control has confirmed that UV-C light has a germicidal effect. Plus, FEMA recommends using UV light for counter-bioterrorism.
The Hotel Oberlin in Ohio, is leading the way in the hotel industry for creating environmentally sustainable hotels.
The standout hotel is the only one in the US to use solar, geothermal and radiant heating and cooling systems. It’s also one of only five hotels in the U.S. specifically designed for the LEED Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council. Developed by SMART Hotels, the hotel is managed by The Olympia Companies and owned by Oberlin College.
