Nearly 200 guests convened in the lobby of the stunning Builders BLDG at 222 N. LaSalle in Chicago on May 10 for the Illinois M+E Best of 2018 readers’ choice awards. DJ D. Jones spun upbeat tunes, while MDM Entertainment provided A/V and Tag Prints hosted a photo booth. The event was co-hosted by DineAmic Group and Builders BLDG and emceed by one of the magazine’s associate publishers, Susan Rose. It was a night to remember for all the Best of winners and finalists and Hall of Fame recipients.
As part of its ongoing, multimillion dollar renovation, Hotel Crescent Court celebrated the opening of Beau Nash, its new champagne bar and cocktail lounge. The luxury hotel is located in Uptown, just steps away from the Dallas Arts District.

The 37th edition of the IACC Americas Connect conference took place on April 16-18 at Chubb Hotel & Conference Center and The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. The three-day conference, hosted by former White House Director of Events Laura Schwartz, included educational sessions, panel discussions in the form of campfires, workshops, culinary tours and tastings, as well as the annual Global Copper Skillet competition.
The Meetings Industry Council (MIC) of Colorado hosted a record 1,210 registered attendees for its 18th annual conference and trade show on March 13-14 at the Colorado Convention Center. MIC of Colorado is a coalition of 13 professional organizations related to the meetings and events industry.
The Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau (DMCVB) traditionally unveils its latest marketing plan, which includes departmental objectives and strategies, during its annual membership meeting every January. This year’s event at MotorCity Casino Hotel’s Sound Board drew hundreds to hear the bureau’s recap of 2017, projections for the future and new ads.
Its next-generation ad campaign, themed Detroit: It’s Go Time, now appears in a variety of offline and online media in key markets, including Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Indianapolis.
MNM+E’s annual readers’ choice awards brought 305 meeting and event professionals to the Minneapolis Institute of Art on April 5 to honor the Best of 2018 award winners and Hall of Famers. Back by popular demand, Discover St. Louis Park sponsored puppies from Secondhand Hounds, which greeted guests at registration. At the end of 2017, the NYC & Company 17th Annual Visionaries & Voices Gala was held at the Ziegfeld Ballroom in New York City. The annual event celebrates iconic individuals and institutions that embody the vibrancy and vitality of New York City. The 2017 event honored “The Greatest Showman,” a new film from 20th Century Fox; SPE Partners and the new National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey; and the NFL and Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group for the new NFL Experience Times Square.
Nearly 500 people from Illinois and the greater Midwest gathered at the stunning Palmer House Hilton Feb. 26-28 for the annual Illinois Governor’s Conference on Tourism. During the three-day event, attendees had the chance to hear from key industry officials, including an opening keynote from Carroll Rheem, vice president of research for Brand USA; a luncheon talk on crisis management and tourism security from Dr. Peter E. Tarlow, founder and president of Tourism & More; and an address by Cory Jobe, director of the Illinois Office of Tourism, at the closing breakfast.
Held Oct. 13, 2017, at the Museum of the American Revolution, Taste America was a four-course plated dinner held to benefit the James Beard Foundation. The event, planned by Cashman & Associates, welcomed 300 attendees who dined on food provided by Brûlée Catering in collaboration with other culinary stars.
