The Portland Chapter of International Live Events Association (ILEA) held its ever-popular Art of the Party tabletop competition at Vibrant Table Catering & Events on May 24. The fierce but friendly competition didn’t disappoint, showcasing designs ranging from grand elegance to colorful whimsy.
The City of South Padre Island and the South Padre Island Convention & Visitors Bureau celebrated the grand reopening of the South Padre Island Convention Centre with a formal ribbon cutting ceremony, following the center’s multimilliondollar renovation.
Associations North, formerly MSAE (Midwest Society of Association Executives), celebrated 60 years at Aria Minneapolis on Aug. 4 by honoring the past, present and future. Guests were greeted with stilt walkers, valet parking, champagne tower and a walk through the decades in the form of 8-foot-by-8-foot photo walls from the past six decades. Member logos were highlighted in a big “60” for a memorable backdrop. The four-sided bar and video cube overhead highlighted more member photos and videos on the impact of associations (complete with a blooper reel).
Visit Bucks County hosted its annual Tourism Day Celebration on May 3, 2016. This year, the celebration was held from 4-7 p.m. at Washington Crossing Historic Park. Visit Bucks County kicked off the event by recognizing five inspiring tourism and hospitality professionals in its annual Travel and Tourism Week Awards. VBC also announced 31 spring tourism grant recipients, with over $200,000 allocated for various marketing programs, exhibits and initiatives.
While you can always view the city of Chicago from one of the tallest buildings in the world, the Willis Tower, there’s a new way to see the vast landscape—from a helicopter hovering 100 stories high. Chicago Helicopter Experience is the latest option for meeting and event professionals to take their event to a whole new level. Guests can enjoy dinner, cocktails and entertainment before taking flight on a unique day or night tour that also provides a little history.
On June 23, the Meeting Professionals International Southern California Chapter (MPISCC) gathered at the Concourse Hotel LAX (soon to be Hyatt Regency LAX) to install its 2016-2017 board. After a lively reception at the newly opened event lawn, an awards dinner was held in the ballroom. The chapter’s theme for the upcoming year is “evolve.” As incoming president Nicole Newman puts it, “Nothing in our industry looks the same today as it did five or 10 years ago. We’re an industry looking toward the future: innovating, adapting, exploring and connecting.”
Garden Oasis Fête was the theme for Meeting Professionals International Rocky Mountain Chapter’s annual awards gala held June 22 at Church Ranch Event Center in Westminster. Congratulations to the award recipients!
Members of the National Association of Catering & Events Denver Chapter were in for a treat during a Riedel glassware seminar (complete with wine of course!) held at JW Marriott Denver Cherry Creek and featuring Doug Reed, a regional territory manager for Riedel Crystal.
At this year’s Alliance Française De Chicago gala, guests had a roaring good time taking in the whimsy of 1920s Paris. The biennial event benefits the nonprofit institution, founded 120 years ago, which has become the Midwest’s leading French cultural and learning center. It’s dedicated to studying the language and exchange of friendship between the two countries, and has one of the largest private French libraries in the area.
MPI WEC’s Atlantic City arrival began with a bang at the Opening Night Celebration on the sand. It was a beach party to remember (the flip-flops at the entrance were a definite hit with the heel-wearing female attendees!) A few nights later, Train’s concert at WAV Nightclub was a hit.
