PCMA’s flagship event, Convening Leaders, brought industry professionals from 36 countries to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on Jan. 6-9 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. “We built this conference around the theme Disrupt + Deliver because that’s what the industry needs and wants,’’ says PCMA President and CEO Sherriff Karamat. “We leave here with a greater commitment and better understanding of how business events can and must drive economic and social progress.’’

Approximately 4,000 business event strategists and industry leaders were in Pittsburgh for sessions covering innovation, design, leadership and technology. Approximately 1,200 tuned into the livestreamed programming. Billie Jean King, Seth Godin, Geena Davis, Steve Pemberton and Kjell Nordstrom, Ph.D., were among 138 experts, advocates, industry leaders and celebrities to address the group.

Convening Leaders generated an estimated $6 million in economic value for the Pittsburgh region. “We were able to demonstrate to events planners from around the world that Pittsburgh is a firstclass host destination,’’ says Craig Davis, president and CEO of VisitPITTSBURGH.

The PCMA Foundation raised more than $300,000 through on-site fundraising projects including its annual Party With a Purpose.

The International Live Events Association (ILEA) Dallas Chapter spread some holiday cheer at its annual Holiday Giveback. The organization chose to work with Senior Source and the Diversicare facility. Members of the group held a party for the facility complete with caroling, live music, holiday crafts and bingo—and of course plenty of cookies and punch. The group also collected items for Diversicare’s wish list, along with a $5 donation from each member who registered for the networking happy hour that followed the party.
