    You don’t have to be vegetarian to appreciate the food. 

Peeking through the window of Fig + Farro on a summer night, expect to be greeted by the sight of people lounging on an ornate rug in the corner, surrounded by plush pillows, or maybe laughing as they enjoy plates meant to be shared or sipping cocktails over conversation at the community table. The eatery opened in January 2018, and its global, plant-based small plates and community focus has earned it recognition throughout the Twin Cities.

The menu is entirely vegetarian, with plenty of vegan options. “There has been a lot of demand for a true vegetarian restaurant [in Minneapolis],” says Thomas Dambrine, co-founder of Fig + Farro. Groups are welcome at the establishment, which can seat 160 in its 6,000-square-foot space. Most of the seating in the restaurant is at community tables, seating two to 12 guests. “For larger groups, the chefs will bring out small plate dishes from different cuisines,” says Dambrine. 

Customers can enjoy watching the chefs at work in the open kitchen, or sit in the patio space that opens onto the street. The space has large bay windows that are open on sunny days. “Although we have a full bar, our approach is more family friendly,” says Dambrine. “We are definitely trying to aim to customers from all over.” 

The time is right; the stage is set. Groups are ready to meet face to face again, and the four-star luxury hotel MGM Grand Detroit is ready to welcome you back.

According to MPI’s report “Spring 2021 Meetings Outlook,” three-quarters of meeting professionals predict a face-to-face event this calendar year. And that definitely rings true for Lisa Williams, executive director of sales for the hotel.

 

Baldamar’s location—next to the Von Maur at Rosedale Center—might give the wrong first impression. The hip, fine dining restaurant is a fresh concept for the area, one that could easily fit into a more foodie-centric area. Randy Stanley, owner of 6Smith in Wayzata, calls Baldamar a legacy restaurant that just happens to be next a mall (he similarly describes 6Smith as a restaurant that happens to have a lake attached). “I’ve always liked this part of the Twin Cities,” says Stanley. “I love the thriving, local community.
