The Mark Spencer Hotel has been immersed in art since it first opened its doors as the Nortonia Hotel in 1907. Located in the middle of Portland, Oregon’s West End district, it has welcomed artists such as Louis Armstrong, Spike Jones, Billy Barty and Sammy Davis Jr. In 1966, the Nortonia was remodeled and renamed The Mark Spencer Hotel. The oldest operating hotel in Portland’s metro area, it continues to showcase creativity. “Each floor is a nod to a different art form,” says Cydelle Higa-Johnston, director of sales. The Mark Spencer Hotel is currently undergoing another renovation. The meeting space in the historic venue is now complete, boasting 3,500 square feet of space with enough room for 200 guests. Future renovations include exposing and refinishing the original brick and wood beams throughout the property.
