• Goldmoor Inn Appoints New Director of Events

The Goldmoor Inn has announced Glenn Griffith as its new director of events. Griffith will all event planning at the 21-acre property based in Galena, Ill.

He brings more thanr 25 years of experience to his new role, previously serving as director of catering in hotels such as The New York Palace Hotel, The Charles Hotel at Harvard Square and Four Seasons Hotel Chicago. He also has owned his own social and corporate event planning company, Glenn Griffith Inc.

“We are thrilled to welcome Glenn’s level of expertise and eye for detail to Goldmoor Inn,” says Slobo Radin, co-owner, The Goldmoor Inn. “His experience and passion for creating memorable events with panache is unmatched.”

His experience is extensive. Griffith has planned events for President Ronald Reagan, President Gerald Ford, Vice President Nelson Rockefeller, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Julia Child, Martha Stewart and John Lennon. He earned his bachelor’s degree in hotel administration from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. He has managed events for the Essex House New York, Harvard Club of New York City, Union League Club of Chicago, Westin River North Chicago and The Garland.

Choosing a career in the event industry is not for the faint of heart. Let’s face it: Event planning is stressful. The last-minute changes, demands from clients and surmounting urgency of a quickly approaching event can make it difficult to maintain a healthy work-life balance.

As a new mother, I’m right there with you and need just as much help developing a healthy work-life balance. In my experiences working in events, I’ve found the following to be helpful ways to care for my mental health, despite being in a stressful profession:

 

In light of COVID-19, a survey commissioned by the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) discovered that 44 percent of Americans are planning leisure trips or overnight travel before the end of 2020.  

 

This fall, chef Jorge Guzman will open a new restaurant, Petite León, in the former Blackbird Cafe space in South Minneapolis. The restaurant will serve dishes with Mexican, Spanish, French, and American influences, that aim to be approachable, creative and delicious.
