Hotel Pennsylvania is one step closer to the completion of its top-to-bottom transformation. The historic New York marvel revealed 500+ redesigned rooms incorporating modern comforts with original features. In celebration of its 100-year anniversary, phase two of three seamlessly represents an evolution of its renowned history.

The expansive new guest rooms, located on the 14th and 16th floors of the 22-story hotel, are known as The Penn Plaza Collection. A soothing white and beige palette is complemented by wood furnishings with modern lines, new carpeting and sizeable mounted TVs. The bathrooms have been revived, but still retain the original subway tiles and cast-iron bathtubs. Further preserving the hotel’s historic legacy, the Servidors were kept in each redesigned guest room. Now found in only two other U.S. hotels, these compartments opened to the hallway and the room’s interior for laundry or shoe-shining purposes.

On select floors, elevator landings have been transformed into combined lounge and co-working spaces, fitted with well-crafted tables from reclaimed materials. In addition, the Pantry Room on the 12th floor now displays historical artifacts from Hotel Pennsylvania’s initial years including an original room service phone, the hotel industry’s first-ever refrigerator and an authentic all-copper fire extinguisher.

Looking forward, the independent property will wrap up the renovations with its third phase expected to be finished in early 2021. The third phase plans to encompass the hotel’s expansive suites including the addition of an Executive floor and new event spaces.

Remote working has become mainstream with the continued presence of COVID-19. While many people have welcomed the new normal of working from home, others miss the separation of spaces, as many corporate offices have remained closed since March. Without the daily obligation to go into the office, professionals have the ability to travel more freely. Hotels across the country are creating “work from hotel” deals–a play on “work from home”–so people can explore new places while still fitting in their 9 to 5.  

 

Choosing a career in the event industry is not for the faint of heart. Let’s face it: Event planning is stressful. The last-minute changes, demands from clients and surmounting urgency of a quickly approaching event can make it difficult to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
