California is officially out of its drought, thanks to a very rainy winter, and among the many wonderful benefits is a spectacular flower season. Nowhere is this more resplendently in view than at The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch. I recently spent a couple of gorgeous hours touring the 50 acres of the working farm that are devoted to the Tecolote Giant Ranunculus, also known as the Persian Buttercup or Ranunculus Asiatic. The blossoms, in a rainbow of hues, are truly breathtaking, and, if you’re anywhere in the neighborhood, it’s definitely worth checking out. The fields will be open until Mother’s Day, and there are special events over the next few weeks, including concerts, food trucks, and workshops in flowers, succulents and flower arranging; basket weaving; and more.

If you do go, you’ll be struck by what a spectacular setting the fields would make for a special event. There’s been growing interest in hosting corporate groups, team building, weddings and meetings and the like at the Flower Fields, and more and more ways to fulfill the requesters. The Flower Fields are now accepting bookings for up to 220 guests. According to a spokesperson, the most popular options include a sunset wine tasting, yoga classes, lunch or dinner in the fields and floral arranging classes. Booking is available year-round and behind-the-scenes tours of the farm can be arranged during the off-season.

Several venues are available like The Paul Ecke, Jr. Barn, which is nestled among the flowers and offers views of the Pacific Ocean. The Stage includes hardscape and stonework, moving water and floral accents, with the backdrop of the Flower Fields or the working farm during the off-season. The Gardens offers a water feature, Mediterranean-style pillars, and bench seating, perfect for cocktail hours and intimate events. A recommended vendor list covers caterers, photographers, rental companies, DJ’s, photo booths and nearby hotels.

You can find more information on the weddings and occasions page of The Flower Fields website.

When it comes to apples, Minnesota knows its stuff. Home of the Honeycrisp, Minnesota proudly boasted its apple knowledge at the Minnesota Cider Guild's 6th annual Minnesota Cider Fest on Saturday, June 8. With more than 30 local, national and international cideries, the Minnesota Cider Fest offered samples of endless flavors of cider, and for the cider connoisseur, education sessions to test your apple knowledge.
