By M+E Staff

Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park recently initiated a fundraising effort among colleagues and business partners in response to the floods and mudslides in Acapulco, Mexico. The flooding killed at least 55 people and additionally caused thousands to be stranded and homeless, including 210 colleagues from Fairmont properties.

The efforts, led by Mark Huntley, regional vice president and general manager, raised a total of $45,000 with everyone from Fairmont Chicago employees to hotel owners contributing. The Fairmont family and business partners donated a variety of gifts including airline vouchers, Target gift cards and a year’s supply of Panera Bread bagels. Vacation packages were auctioned off during silent and live auctions, Fairmont Chicago hosted a hotel-wide Zumba class with a suggested donation of $5, and Aria restaurant and bar donated $6 from each margarita sold during the month of October.
