Lisle recently held the Illinois Principals Association’s (IPA) Education Leaders Summer Conference, which took place on June 11-12 at the Hilton Hotel. This year’s common theme was Leaders With One Common Core: KIDS.
The general sessions featured Larry Newman, CEO of Newman Stecher International. Newman keynoted the first general session, “Building a Bully Proof School Community,” which was sponsored by the Masonic Student Assistant Program. Jason Leahy, executive director of the IPA, shared the keynote “Vision 20/20” at the second general session. The keynote speaker for the third general session was Chad Varga, communication expert, author and founder of the Chad Varga Company in Bradenton, Fla. Varga presented “BOUNCE: Down is Inevitable, Up is a Choice,” which was sponsored by Club’s Choice Fundraising.
A variety of small group sessions on important topics affecting administrators and schools were also offered throughout the two day event. Topics included: new Illinois learning standards, special education legal updates, building a winning classroom, new Illinois science standards, suicide prevention, social media and more.
Additionally, Sheryl Gray from Prarie Trail School in Wadsworth, Ill. was recognized as Assistant Principal of the Year for IPA’s Awards For Excellence program. The program, which is sponsored by Horace Mann and IPA, recognizes school administrators work with students and staff.
