Hello readers,
Everyone asked and Portillo’s listened! After a plea by a Reddit user that went viral, the popular Chicago-based restaurant group brought back its cult classic lemon cake after a 10-year absence for a limited run this summer. They have since extended the availability window through August (and maybe permanently, if we can dream).
The lemon cake comes by the slice and full cakes can be ordered for your next event. If catering, you must call or order through the restaurant as it’s not available on the website. In addition Portillo’s has a full catering menu offering “Home Kitchen” packages that are ready to heat and serve and “Fast Packs” ideal for group get-togethers. There are a range of options to choose from, including classic hot dog and Italian beef and Italian sausage packs as well as combo sandwiches, burgers, and chicken. Ribs, pasta, salads, sides, desserts, and drinks can all be added on as well. Find full menus here.
Also in local food news, the much-anticipated Rosemont minor league baseball team finally has a name. Last week, the Chicago Dogs were unveiled, taking a cue from the proverbial food mascot of the ballpark. The logo features the colors and stars of the Chicago flag and was inspired by baseball, hot dogs and all things local. It was designed by Adrenalin Inc., a Denver-based brand expansion agency with a wide variety of clients in the sports industry including the L.A. Kings, Harlem Globetrotters and the United States Olympic Committee. The Chicago Dogs are scheduled to begin their first season in May 2018 at the new $60 million, 6,300-seat new stadium currently under construction in town.
Happy Planning!
