• La Fonda Wins Awards & Introduces Docent Tours

Staying at the historic La Fonda on the Plaza no longer means just looking at the diverse collection of art and guessing at the history behind some of its most celebrated features. During a new docent-led tour, groups can take part in an hour-long tour and learn about notable artists and how the iconic hotel’s 400-year-old beginnings and elements from its past are part of the modern-day look. Handcarved wooden beams, stained-glass skylights, a classic Colter staircase, hand-painted window and door panes, and a collection of one-ofa- kind cowboy hats are among the architectural and art highlights. ¶ La Fonda also landed three awards at the recent Top HAT Awards, a new program created by the New Mexico Hospitality Association, winning the outstanding attraction award for its new docent-led tour program and two outstanding service nods. Ruben Marquez, assistant bell captain, won the award for front-of-the-house hospitality and Andrew Garcia, assistant dining room manager, took top honors for front-of-the-house food and beverage hospitality.

In 1927, Hilton Hotels’ founder Conrad Hilton said, "Abilene, Texas, will be well prepared to handle large conventions and please the most fastidious visitor." Nearly 95 years later, Abilene has fulfilled this vision and is excited to welcome back the Hilton family of hotels in the heart of downtown Abilene with a recently announced DoubleTree by Hilton.

The time is right; the stage is set. Groups are ready to meet face to face again, and the four-star luxury hotel MGM Grand Detroit is ready to welcome you back.

According to MPI’s report “Spring 2021 Meetings Outlook,” three-quarters of meeting professionals predict a face-to-face event this calendar year. And that definitely rings true for Lisa Williams, executive director of sales for the hotel.
