• Lester Robinson II connects DC planners with the Mile High City in new role with Visit Denver

Diverse, extensive experience and a passion for both DC and Denver are what Lester Robinson II is bringing to Visit Denver as the new sales director, Washington DC Region. A Michigan native, Robinson has been in the DC area for 10 years and has traveled all over the country for work. Prior to joining Visit Denver, he worked with Caesar’s Entertainment in Las Vegas and Hilton Worldwide in Baltimore and Michigan.

“What I’m looking forward to most is connecting DC planners with this exciting outdoor city. I’ve spent quite a bit of time in Denver and I want to share about it,” Robinson says. 

Robinson’s career in the hospitality industry began at Michigan State when an academic counselor suggested he look into the university’s hospitality business program. Originally an accounting major, Robinson found that hospitality business was a much better fit for his sociable, energetic disposition. He went on to complete two hospitality internships while at Michigan State, one of which was with Marriot Hotels & Resorts. 

Since joining Visit Denver in July, Robinson has gone to Colorado four times. The endless opportunities to travel, experience different things and connect with new people are what Robinson enjoys most about working in the hospitality industry. 

“I love learning about new cultures and backgrounds. It takes you out of your bubble at home,” Robinson says. “There’s never a dull moment and no two days are the same.”

Although Robinson’s already established love for Denver was a big factor in his decision to join Visit Denver, he was also drawn by the company’s shining reputation. 

“I’m truly excited to be joining an amazing team. I took the role partly because the city is amazing, but I was also drawn to the great leadership here. The entire staff has been amazing in welcoming me,” Robinson says.  

Asha Hassan, a housekeeper at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Minneapolis-Downtown (Convention Center) has been named the “Hospitality Hero” award winner for the third quarter of 2018 by Meet Minneapolis, Convention and Visitors Association. This honor is for an individual or company that has made valuable contributions to the image and culture of Minneapolis through outstanding hospitality and service.

 

The Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau (GLCVB) recently appointed Melissa Nay, CTA as its new membership manager. The GLCVB’s mission is to promote the region as a visitor destination to impact the area’s economy, and in her new position, Nay will do just that.

“Continued growth of membership is an important part of our organization’s future plans," said Jack Schripsema, president and CEO of the GLCVB. “We are confident that Melissa’s experience will make her a perfect fit for this role.”

 

Julie Pingston, executive vice president/chief operating officer and David Buckenberger, senior vice president of Business Development of the Greater Lansing Convention & Visitors Bureau have earned the Certified Destination Management Executive (CDME) designation, the only integrated executive program specifically designed for the destination marketing industry.
