Darren Temple was recently hired as COO at Meeting Professionals International (MPI).
What are you looking forward to the most in your new role as COO?
I am very excited about this new role and am up for the challenge. What I look forward to the most is bringing operational effectiveness and consistency to the MPI global operations worldwide.
How do you think past experiences have prepared you for this role?
I have been in the industry for 29 years, and in this time, I have learned a lot about both planner and supplier needs which is critical to understanding our membership and how we can best serve them. I have worked for Freeman, PSAV and the Dallas CVB, all in executive sales management roles, during that time I have always been connected to MPI. I believe I have a unique perspective of the industry that will allow MPI to continue to grow and stay relevant for many years to come.
How did you get into the industry?
I first joined this great industry right after college as a sales representative for Freeman – specifically on the A/V side. Those were humble days and it just goes to show how one can grow their career with the professional development from MPI – both educational and networking opportunities.
What are you hoping to achieve in your new role?
My goals are to drive revenue, focus on margins and propel the MPI brand. I will also continue to focus on growing our presence in Europe and providing strategic oversight for the MPI Foundation.
What do you enjoy most about the industry?
The people – hands down. I fell into this industry by accident in 1989…. now I have fallen in love with the industry and the great people in it around the world.
