When Minneapolis won the bid to host Super Bowl LII back in May 2014, the city and its people got to work. By the time the Eagles defeated the Patriots on Feb. 4, 2018, in front of a crowd of 67,612, more than 150 Super Bowl-related parties and events took place, 1,055,000 people attended the 10-day fan festival and 1.4 million people visited the Mall of America. The next day, Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport waved good-bye to a record-breaking 61,000 visitors, and the people who worked tirelessly to pull off the event breathed a collective sigh of relief.

Meet Minneapolis, Convention and Visitors Association, revealed the winners of its annual awards at the 2017 Meet Minneapolis Annual Meeting on March 2 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. More than 530 partners, elected officials and other guests attended the event. Meet Minneapolis highlighted a milestone year for hospitality in Minneapolis and unveiled the city’s first-ever tourism master plan, Destination Transformation 2030.
Minnesotans have no trouble rattling off the reasons they love this place: abundant lakes, top-notch restaurants, a vibrant arts and entertainment scene, and, of course, the new U.S. Bank Stadium. But all out-of-towners often hear about are the harsh winters.
Samson Desta, a room service attendant for the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis, was awarded the Hospitality Hero award by Meet Minneapolis Convention and Visitors Association. The award is given out quarterly to members of the Minneapolis hospitality community who are nominated by their colleagues.
“Desta embodies authentic hospitality and is a great ambassador for Hyatt and for Minneapolis," says Vince Vito, director of sales and marketing.
This past Memorial Day weekend, the Mall of America was abuzz when over 500 bloggers gathered for the Travel Blog Exchange (TBEX), the world’s largest gathering of travel bloggers, writers, new media content creators and social media travel industry professionals. Here, bloggers spent the weekend networking with one another, finding out how to keep their blogs relevant, and touring both the new and old gems of the Twin Cities.
Three hundred meeting and event professionals gathered at Aria on March 31 for MNM+E’s 14th annual Best of Minnesota awards. Guests walked the red carpet (sponsored by Canterbury Park Catering & Events), posed at the Snapz Photo Booth and sipped bubbly from an aerial bartender (sponsored by Roseville Visitors Association). Saltee filled the main room with live music.
