Blue Water Area Transit is rolling out a new transportation stop later this year that will connect the Blue Water Convention Center, located adjacent to the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Port Huron and together creating a destination conference complex, with downtown Port Huron.
Michigan’s Thumbcoast Director of Sales Terra Damchuk says the question conference planners and attendees asked most often was: Do you offer a shuttle to downtown Port Huron?
“Now we can finally say yes,” Damchuk says. “This new addition will be such a wonderful amenity to offer our visitors.”
Passengers will be able to board the bus outside the DoubleTree and the convention center. “It will then drop passengers off at the downtown Blue Water Area Transit Center, which is located right in the center of downtown by McMorran Plaza,” Damchuk says. “The transit station is two miles from the convention center.
McMorran Place is a civic center for the arts and community entertainment with an ice arena, splash pad for families, theater, and two rental rooms with space for special events. Offering free concerts during the summer, it’s in the heart of downtown Port Huron with its mix of restaurants, salons, gift and antique shops, bars and lounges including a distillery, boutiques, and services.
“Our downtown has become such a happening place,” Damchuk says. “Downtown offers over 20 different unique eats, multiple spas, and some lovely boutiques. We also have the (newly opened) Wrigley Center … which will have five eateries and three bars. It will include the new Renman Distillery as well.”
Visitors can also board the Huron Lady II in downtown Port Huron on the Black River to take 90-minute narrated tours on the St. Clair River into Lake Huron.
Cost to ride the bus will be 80 cents one way or $1.60 round trip. Damchuk says meeting planners will be able to purchase travel vouchers for participants in advance. Michigan’s Thumbcoast also provides a map showing downtown Port Huron businesses and locations. Find it at bluewater.org.
