Good Housekeeping recognized Traverse City as one of its best beach destinations in its 2026 Travel Awards. The awards highlight the publication’s top destinations across categories including cities, beaches, and getaways.

“Receiving recognition from Good Housekeeping, which is widely recognized for its high standards, is something the entire region can be very proud of,” says Traverse City Tourism President Trevor Tkach in a prepared statement.

With venues such as the elegant Park Place Hotel and Conference Center and the modern Hotel Indigo by IGH, Traverse City is home to notable event centers amid its ample rural and urban amenities.

Considered one of the premier host cities in the Midwest, Traverse City boasts a beautiful coastline, abundant inland waterways, and towering sand dunes—plus it is widely known as “The Cherry Capital of the World.” Good Housekeeping describes it as a “hidden gem,” for its twenty-thousand-year-old glacial deposits in Grand Traverse Bay and the unbeatably blue waters of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The host area also offers stunning views of Lake Michigan, and it is a vibrant recreational hub that includes hundreds of miles of hiking and biking trails.

Beyond its unique geographic features, the region is recognized as a vibrant culinary host area and is home to more than 50 wineries in the Traverse Wine Coast, with vineyards dotting the rolling hillsides overlooking Grand Traverse Bay. Good Housekeeping recognized Traverse City’s inland charm, too, noting a vibrant downtown, thriving art scene, and picturesque orchards.
